Industrial Engineering and Management

Industrial Engineering and Management (also known as Industrial Engineering or IE) integrates the disciplines of science, engineering, information technology and management to study and optimize the operational efficiency of organizations. An organization can be a shop, a production line, a factory, an international firm’s global supply chain, and even a government agency. IE studies all types of industry including retail, transportation, military logistics, financial services, healthcare, entertainment and non-profit organizations. To develop effective solutions for improving operational efficiency, industrial engineers have to comprehensively and systematically understand, identify and evaluate the complicated interactions of an organization’s departments, units, and subsystems. Industrial Engineering, therefore, is a “highly systematic and widely applicable” discipline.
